NASA sends final command to its NEOWISE spacecraft, ending more than a
  decade of asteroid observations
  Spaceflight Now, 09 Aug 2024 02:32Z

In honor of the demise of the WISE telescope I've snaffled some last
min data and made a few home movies of several interesting sections of
the sky in IR (WISE's w1 band out-lasted the tank of liquid hydrogen
that kept the instrument cold for the w4 band).

<kym.massbus.org/WISE/UPDATE13aug2024>.

The movies are 10-15 years of mostly hourly data boiled down to
averages over 24 hrs per frame and 20 days per sec.

Per WISE standards IR brightness is measured in "magnitude" (the color
scale along the rhs of the images). Not only is this logarithmic (that
stretches the scale of smaller numbers) but larger numbers are the
dimmer ones (i.e. blue, purple, black).

Named objects are centred roughly in the middle of each image.
Sometimes they show up as a dark (i.e. bright) blob in IR, and
sometimes they are shaded by a nearby object that is brighter.

Various flickers and flashes and whatnot can also be seen. Best not
to ask what that is all about.
