Dr. Joe Davis specializes in the areas of Forensic Psychology, Profiling, Forensic Mental Health Case Consultation, Education and Training, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD), Psychological Autopsy in Equivocal Death Analysis and Workplace Violence Assessment.

Dr. Davis is Director of the Department of Forensic Science, Criminal Justice and Criminology at National University, San Diego, California USA. Dr. Davis is a Diplomate of the American Board and College of Forensic Examiners and is Board Certified in Forensics with a specialization in forensic psychology and forensic mental health related case consultation. Dr. Davis also provides expertise on violence in the workplace.

Research Reports and Case Studies:

To be handed in the last lecture of regular class (no exceptions). Deadline: October 21st

Lecture Format:

Each lecture will begin with a class agenda. Lecture will primarily be of the seminar format and come from the assigned course text, supplemental readings, and handouts. Media (video) will also be used in conjunction with lecture material on special topics of interest. Each lecture will correspond roughly to three chapters of material. You are expected to review and read all the materials assigned regardless if its covered in the lecture or not.

Graduate Course Prerequisites:

Graduate standing in Forensic Sciences, a course in abnormal psychology, advanced psychopathology or Forensic Psychology and Psychiatry (CJ/FS-643), a course Medicolegal Death Investigation (CJ-630), Gross Anatomy (CJ-630), and Major Case Investigation (CJ-631) or by permission from the course professor (Dr. Davis).

Caveat and Disclosure:

A student completing a course in profiling does not qualify him or her as an expert in this subject matter. Years of training, and education combined with professional experience in addition to academic preparation beyond this course provides the necessary ground work for advancement in this area of forensic specialization. This course will expose students to extremely violent and graphic material, forensic crime scene evidence, autopsy, blunt and sharp force trauma, sex crimes and homicide. Please speak with Dr. Davis before fully engaging in this course.
